Amsterdam · Netherlands

Look beyond the canal-ring postcard.

The historic centre matters, but Amsterdam’s neighbourhoods make the trip feel broader and less crowded.

Build sensible days

  • Combine the Canal Ring and Jordaan on foot.
  • Give the Museum Quarter a focused day rather than booking everything.
  • Use the free ferry behind Central Station to explore Noord.
  • Try De Pijp, Oost or Westerpark for markets, parks and neighbourhood food.

Practical Amsterdam

Trams, metro, buses, ferries and trains work well. Keep out of cycle lanes and cross carefully. Major museums and the Anne Frank House require advance official booking.

Three days

1: Canals and Jordaan. 2: Museum Quarter and De Pijp. 3: Noord, Oost or a nearby town.
